George Orwell said, “We sleep safe in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm.”   

Orwell was right except that it is not rough men but ordinary men and women willing to put aside their comforts and muster the courage to stand between those who would do us harm and their fellow citizens. 

Let us always remember those brave men and women who stand and have stood ready in the night to keep us safe.
